Introduction

If you are looking to make a significant change in your life, then the full permaculture design course will almost certainly help you. This course, delivered in both two week residential and six weekend formats, provides you with a broader introduction to the applications of permaculture in a number of different situations. This course is for anyone who believes that we need to find ways to care for ourselves, for each other and for the Earth. This practical course will bring the possibility of significant and positive life changes.
This exciting new week-long course has been developed by Looby Macnamara, following on from her pioneering book 'People and Permaculture'. We will be looking deeply at the questions - how can we grow ourselves, our friendships, our communities, our human family? We will focus on ourselves as people and how we can dedicate our energy to finding solutions for ourselves and the world. We will be looking at how we can improve all aspects of our lives - from our health and well-being to our friendships using permaculture principles and design. Participants are invited to bring a design project with them to work on with support, using Looby's new design framework - the design web. There will be support throughout the design process in different forms - one to one coaching, peer support and tutor led activities. This support will lead us all to a deeper level of understanding as to how to use permaculture design in our own lives as well as challenging and stretching ourselves.
These two or three days offer you an opportunity to polish up your design skills in the company of your peers. It is intended to help anyone just starting out learning design and those following the Diploma, at any stage between induction and close to accreditation. Come to learn, share, make new friends and to be inspired! The core of this event will be to provide you with the feedback you need to become a better designer by taking you though a full design process. Either bring a design that you'd like to finish or come & start one afresh at the venue.
This training has been developed to assist participants in understanding how to take the basic principles of permaculture design and apply them on a land-based project. While a few days is insufficient time to fully observe a site and come up with a design that optimises energy use there, a lot can still be learned. Hence this training takes participants through an albeit brief hands-on land-based design process on a real site, bringing permaculture theory to life. While this is primarily offered as a training to groups and organisations, we're also happy to hear from anyone with a venue who would like to facilitate this as a public course. It is useful for anyone stewarding land, from gardeners to smallholders and farmers and is offered in formats between 3 and 5 days.
